“Sunshine on Leith”
Following a near-fatal tour of duty, squaddies Davy and Ally return to Edinburgh with a song in their hearts.
On the eve of their 25th wedding anniversary Davy’s parents, Rab and Jean, welcome the boys home. Ally’s girlfriend Liz, who’s Davy’s sister, fixes her brother up with pretty pal Yvonne to celebrate. As we know, the course of true love isn’t always predictable, but as this is a feel-good film everything turns out all right in the end.
The story is told to the songs of the Proclaimers (their 1988 album was entitled Sunshine on Leith), in the same way that the hugely popular Mamma Mia film used Abba’s songs, culminating in a stirring performance of “I’m Gonna Be (500Miles)”.
You can’t really fail to enjoy this film.
