“The Hundred Foot Journey”

Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren) has a Michelin starred restaurant in a quaint village in the south of France. It is a renowned establishment, boasting the French President among its diners. This idyll is, however, disrupted when ‘Papa’ Kadam (Om Puri) and his family arrive, moving into the run-down building directly opposite with the intention of opening an Indian restaurant.

Madame Mallory is understandably outraged and is determined to have the business shut down. But it transpires Papa’s son Hassan (Manish Dayal) is a culinary marvel and even Madame Mallory becomes enchanted once she realises his passion and talent for French cuisine. And, of course, his potential to bring further acclaim to her own restaurant.

Helping things along is Hassan’s friendship with the beautiful sous chef Marguerite (Charlotte Le Bon) in Madame’s restaurant. As time passes the cultures combine and they find a recipe for success that is a surprise to them all.

As one review says: “an uplifting and feel-good cultural feast full of Indian spices, French sophistication and British wit”.
