This film tells the story of Adele (Kate Winslet), a woman who slowly shut herself off from the world, relying heavily on her young son Henry (Gattlin Griffith), whose father abandoned them for another wife and other children. An encounter with escaped convict Frank (Josh Brolin) in the local store leads to him finding refuge with them, while trying to remain hidden from the police.
An unlikely relationship develops as Frank’s presence begins to bring Adele out of her depression while also offering Henry, her son, a substitute father figure.
This is not a story about a fugitive on the run, but an extremely well acted love story that is both tender and heart breaking.
Winslet, as always, is superb.
